The UT Twin87 captures the essence of both the original classic design and the modern versions, inspired by the classic U87. For the first time, United has created a microphone that duplicates both circuits and can automatically reconfigure itself to deliver exceptional reproduction of each microphone’s sonic capabilities.

The UT Twin87 features our own large-core, custom-wound output transformer. Our custom-made, 24-karat gold-sputtered K87-style capsule with a dual-backplate diaphragm, and a wide range of premium components, including polystyrene, tantalum, multilayer ceramic, WIMA film capacitors, metal-film and carbon-film resistors, and hand-selected transistors.

The capsule is powered directly by 48V phantom power. This technology manifests itself with a warm, smooth, and silky sound. Switching the microphone to modern mode yields a clearer sonic image and greater detail. In this mode, the voltage is boosted to 63 V via a FET circuit. In total, the UT Twin87 transmits across a frequency spectrum from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, fully covering the entire audible range of the human ear.
