Description
Philips Valve Mixer is a unique and historically significant Philips Custom Valve mixing console from the early 1960s, originally installed at Polysom Studios in Portugal. Custom-built by a Danish engineer, it is considered the first multitrack mixing console ever used in Portugal, and possibly a prototype or one-off model. It combines classic Philips tube circuitry with germanium transistor technology, using EL3710 and EL3660 modules.
Technical Description:
- 12 input channels
- 4 output channels
- 2 auxiliary buses
- Hybrid tube and germanium transistor design
Includes original Philips technical documentation from the 1960s related to several of its components.
Restoration Summary Philips Valve Mixer:
- Under the supervision of one of Portugal’s leading technical engineers, the following work has been completed:
- Complete technical diagnosis and structured repair plan
- Full overhaul of all tube preamplifier modules
- Chassis cleaning with dielectric solvent and material inspection
- Anti-corrosion treatment of all connections
- Maintenance of the germanium transistorized mixing modules
- Repair of the power supply (high-voltage power supply unit)
- Overhaul of the high-voltage circuit tubes, +24V lines, and filament lines
- Replacement of the high-voltage electrolytic capacitors
- Installation of new 50µF + 50µF 500V TAD capacitors with adapted chassis connectors
The console now presents itself as a museum-quality recording console, reflecting the transitional era between tube technology and early solid-state technology. It is ready for completion according to the buyer’s preferred routing and connection configuration, or it can be sold as is at a competitive price.
