In a market saturated with digital emulations, Rupert Neve Designs reaffirms its analogue dominance with the launch of the 5046 OptoFET. It’s not just a compressor; it’s an engineering solution designed to resolve the eternal dilemma of dynamics: power or smoothness?

By combining two classic topologies into a flexible dual-band architecture, the OptoFET promises to become the new rack standard. Therefore, Rupert Neve Designs is pleased to announce it as its first product of 2026. This compressor combines a new FET compression circuit design with an optimised optical compression circuit, all in a single rack unit.

Two main operating modes:

Dual Stage: Both compressors are connected in series. This allows you to apply that classic technique of using a fast FET to have peaks under control and an optical circuit to provide cohesion and musicality, all in a single step and without any extra patching.

Dual Band: divides the signal into two frequency bands, allowing each compressor to operate independently.

Each compressor offers a complete set of fully variable controls: attack, release, threshold, make-up gain, and parallel mix. In addition, high-pass filters in the sidechain and the exclusive GRIT and BLOOM harmonic modes are included, designed to add character and musicality. The OptoFET, in turn, expands the creative possibilities with a variable crossover control and the option to invert the order of the circuits.

In addition, when two units are configured in dual mono, their 31-position stepped controls ensure absolute precision and exact recall of settings, making it a key piece not only for tracking, but also for bus, group and mastering processing.

Intended for tracking, touring, mixing, mastering & sound design, the OptoFET provides immense control over the dynamics and tonal shape of your source.
