This complex in the centre of Barcelona has been dedicated to film mixing, television dubbing and mixing and post production work for many years, being one of the biggest players in the industry. They now have their second film mixing room, also designed by Tom Hidley, which houses an AMS DFConsole prepared for 7.1 operation. Tom recommended five Reflexion Arts 234 Full Range monitors and two Reflexion Arts BX1x subs, all powered by Reflexion Arts Studio II and Neva Audio PA3000AG amps as the main part of the surround system. » Bomtrack recording studio, in Úbeda, Jaen, for musician/producer David Castro. The control-room is fitted with a stereo pair of 3 way monitors, which resurrects an older monitor design by Philip Newell: RA240. It is a bi-amped system powered by the usual RA Studio II amplifiers and using a Rane AC22B crossover, with passively powered high frequency drivers.
» Metromastering studio in A Coruña. Owned by Saul Patiño, this is the first dedicated mastering facility ever to be built in Galicia. At Metromastering monitoring its done through a Reflexion Arts 239 stereo system with the usual RA Studio II amplifiers and RA AX23 crossover. The room has been prepared for surround with the space for a central monitor and all the cabling.
» New phase of the construction of Academia Crash (audio engineering school) in Manresa, including a complete recording studio for music surround with five full range RA239 and one RA BX1 for sub-bass, as well as a live-sound teaching-room, doubling as cinema-mixing theatre, housing three RA234, one RA BX2 and eight Fane MiniPro DML panels for surround. » Cinemar. In Milladoiro, near Santiago de Compostela. This new and definitive film mixing theatre, designed by Philip Newell and entirely built by Reflexion Arts team, is located in a new industrial estate called Novo Milladoiro. It is the first project of such big size ever built in Galicia, and it sets the turning point in the common choice of sending films shot in the region, down to Madrid or Barcelona to be mixed at the existing Dolby studios. Cinemar will very likely be one of the first Dolby Premium studios in Europe. » Ultimatum. In this new club in Guimaraes, after a very carefully designed acoustic treatment and heavy isolation, a pair of Quested H208 with Neva Audio PA2000AG amp was installed in the “tapas” bar and a pair of self powered F11A in the restaurant. A powerful Meyer Sound/Reflexion Arts/Neva Audio system was installed in the live venue room. Once again the excellent acoustics achieved did not call for the use of an equaliser.

» MB Producões. Mario Barreiros, currently the most awarded and demanded of the Portuguese producers, jumped to the league of the World Class Studios with this million Euro plus investment in the outskirts of Oporto. A building, designed under instructions of Philip Newell, houses a variable acoustics 200 sq. metre recording area, a stone room, a dead room, a vocal booth and a 80 sq. metre control-room, where apart from SSL4000G console and a Studer A800MKIII, you will find an impressive list of vintage outboard gear. Monitors are Reflexion Arts RA234, this time powered by the special designed RA Studio IIx (70w Class A+ 600w Class AG@ 8 Ohms), to avoid compromise with the big room volume.

» Mantra. Matosinhos. A new large disco project in which the architects lack of understanding seriously compromised the acoustic performance of the space. However, the sound system which includes two Community SL980, powered by four Neva Audio PA3000AG and two Reflexion Arts BX2 with McCauleys inside the 14Hz horn – designed by Dr. Keith Holland from the ISVR – and powered by Neva Audio NA3200 are sufficiently impressive.
» Companhia do Som. Oporto. A tiny post-production studio designed under the watchful eye of Reflexion Arts. www.csom.pt
» Estudio da Ribeira, in a historic area of the old Oporto, near by the Palacio da Bolsa (the Stock Exchange) and the old Ferreira Borges flower market (an Eiffel construction, today used as an Art gallery).
» Private studio for top pop band Clã, in Junqueira, Vila do Conde. This facility doubles as rehearsal-room.
» Audimarket. After all these years Alvaro Azevedo, Sergio’s old partner and friend, decided to have his own studio with a bunch of friends in the heart of Matosinhos. Monitor system is a stereo pair of RA 239 with RA Studio IIs. The recording area is built of granite to a Plilip Newell design but it is not reverberant.
